National Digital Inclusion Week (DIW) is an annual week of awareness, recognition, and celebration. With support from COABE, members will have access to daily specialized programming, a social media toolkit, advocacy and awareness tools, and state of the art resources.  

Everyone deserves the opportunity to use technology to live, learn, work, and thrive, and adult education reaches all of the covered populations under the Digital Equity Act and BEAD funding. We hope you will join us throughout the week to learn, share, network, advocate, and promote digital equity in your program and community!

Advocacy and Awareness
The national Digital Equity Act includes $2.75 billion to promote digital equity and inclusion.   States are currently developing their State Digital Equity Plans that must be submitted to the federal government next year.  COABE has put together a cadre of Digital Change Agents to make sure adult education programs are participating in their state planning.  In this session we will review the basics of the Digital Equity Act, meet some of these Digital Change Agents, review the call to action with our Ignite/Engage Voter Voice (Take Action for Digital Equity) and discuss ways we can all get involved. Hybrid-Flexible (HyFlex) Programming and Instruction: Guidance to Support your Instruction and Programs
The Hybrid-Flexible (HyFlex) model supports student choice in how they learn: in-person, synchronously online, or asynchronously online. This session describes HyFlex and introduces a free resource developed to help adult foundational education instructors and programs (including basic literacy, ABE, ASE/HSE Prep, and ESL/ESOL) set up and implement the model. The resources, created in collaboration with innovative practitioners, include the Guide for Design and Implementation of Hybrid–Flexible (HyFlex) Models in adult education and associated videos. Beyond the Adult Education and Literacy Tradition: Where Do We Go From Here?

Some fear that the digital revolution is steering us away from the purpose of adult education, and that we are at risk of losing focus on the populations we are serving and their immediate needs. This session examines the emerging technology-driven expansion of traditional adult education programming beyond today’s “hot jobs.” We will explore an approach to expand training for traditional user applications and employment:

  1. To include evolving tech industries and opportunities;
  2. To push digital equity and inclusion boundaries and;
