The executive director of the New Mexico Adult Education Association (NMAEA) since 2023, Jamie is a New Mexico native. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology and has served in adult education for decades, beginning as a GED® tutor at a women’s correctional facility. From 2009-2023 Jamie served as an instructor, program coordinator, education coordinator, and program director at Albuquerque Adult Learning Center, Inc.
As NMAEA board regional representative, secretary, president-elect, and president from 2009-2023, Jamie now serves as a New Mexico state representative on the Mountain Plains Adult Education Association board. Her position includes service on all NMAEA committees and chairing the Advocacy and Event/Fundraising committees. She has led state advocacy efforts, including recruiting and training student advocates through COABE’s Student Ambassador program. Jamie presented regionally for the Mountain Plains Adult Education Association (MPAEA) and nationally for COABE. As COABE board president, Jamie completed COABE’s State Advocates for Adult Education Fellowship (SAAEF) during its first cohort in 2021-2022, and she continues to work with the program on national advocacy efforts. She also participated in COABE’s State Association Leadership Institute (SALI) in 2022-2023 and continues to participate in the current year’s cohort. Named New Mexico Teacher of the Year in 2014, Jamie received the New Mexico Award of Excellence in 2018.
